Hypothesis:
In this experiment, I baked two batches of cookies. One had no chocolate chips and 1 ⅛ cups of flour, the other had chocolate chips and 1 ⅜ cups of flour. I think the one with more flour and chocolate chips will taste better because the cookies will rise better.
Materials Used:
Ingredients:
Salted butter
Dark brown sugar
Granulated sugar
Eggs
Vanilla extract
All-purpose flour
Baking soda
Salt
Chocolate chips
Materials:
Stand mixer
Measuring cups
Measuring spoons
Cookie sheet
Pam cooking spray
Baking bowls
Procedure:
I identified the independent variable, dependent variable, controlled variable, and constant variable.
I researched the effect of adding more flour to cookies.
Take pictures throughout the process of making the cookies
I baked two different batches of cookies one with no chocolate chips and 1 ⅛ cups of flour and the other with chocolate chips and 1 ⅜ cups of flower.
I took a picture of the final product.
I tested the final products with my family and judged them based on taste, texture, smell, etc.
Struggles/worries
I was worried the ones with more flour wouldn’t rise right
I struggled with the amount of flour i should add
I struggled with the amount of chocolate chips to add
Variables:
Independent variable:
The two different amount of variables
1 ⅛ cups of flour
1 ⅜ cups of flour
The two different batches
One with chocolate chips
One without chocolate chips
Dependent variable:
Taste
Texture
Color
Smell
Quality
How they stay together
Control - original recipe
½ cup dark brown sugar
¼ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup salted butter
1 egg
¾ teaspoon vanilla
1 ⅛ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
Constant variable:
Dark brown sugar
Granulated sugar
Salted butter
Eggs
Vanilla extract
Baking soda
Salt
Graph:
I had my family try both cookies and tell me which they liked better, based on the taste. As the graph say, they liked the cookies with chocolate chips and more flour.
Conclusion & Review
Texture wise, the one with the original amount of flour was the fluffiest, softest cookie. They both held together very well. They both had a light golden color, but the one with the original amount of flour were a little more crispy. The one with chocolate chips smelled more like chocolate and the ones without smelled like vanilla. In conclusion, both cookies were very good, but the ones with chocolate chips tasted better. If you want the cookie with the best taste I’d choose the ones with chocolate chips. If you want the one with the best texture the ones without chocolate chips would be the best for you. I think the original recipe is the easiest one to make and is very good. Overall, from this experiment i you can see that flour plays a large part in how the recipe turns out.
